I like spending my money at independently owned businesses rather then big companies. I'm a small business and I want to support others who carry this responsibility too. However, I treat my customers, who keep me eating, with respect and courtesy. I also expect the same when I spend my hard earned money somewhere.
So, I go into the "National outdoors/ army surplus, whatever they call it store" with the intent on finding out what their exchange policy is because I bought a pair of boots a while back that I NEVER whore once. Most small businesses don't refund much but they will work with you on exchanging things. And I wanted to buy my sweet man a pair of boots for his B-day. I figured I would try to exchange the ones I have if not then ok, my fault, next time I buy something I should actually use it. Anyhow, I go into the store see a woman on the right talking on the phone, a guy on my left greets me and I ask him "what is your exchange policy" he points me to the lady on the phone who is now off the phone. So I walk to her and ask "what is your exchange policy?" She tells me "we don't do refunds during the month of halloween" OK but "can I exchange something?" At this point I haven't any interest nor am I expressing any interest in RETURNING anything, I want to EXCHANGE something. So I explain that I have a pair of boots I never wore and I wanted to see if I can exchange them towards the purchase of another pair of boots. And she goes on to tell me that they don't do refunds during halloween and do I have a receipt? I'm not sure if I have the receipt, they are still tagged though but I don't have them with me, I just wanted to find out if I can exchange them. Then she goes back and forth with I can before halloween then I can't cause they don't do refunds during the month of halloween. I'M CONFUSED AT THIS POINT. Which is it? So I finally ask her what the month of halloween has to do with exchanging something? Then she gets mad and accuses me and my man, who isn't even talking to her, of talking down to her like she is a piece of crap. Then she gets on the phone again to ignore me and I walk back to where the shoes are and decide I can't spend my money here, this lady is nuts and confusing me. She doesn't even know what the exchange policy is so she thought she would make a bunch of shit up. So I head back up to her and she is off the phone now, I asked her if she is the owner of the establishment and she gets defensive and tells me she is. I reply with " I will never spend another dime here cause you are awful." Then she starts yelling at me for being rude and interrupting her while she was on the phone. WHAT? No I didn't bother her once while she was on the phone and thats what I tell her then says some shit about how she shouldn't have been on the phone and I can't REFUND the shoes cause I don't have a receipt. Again, I tell her that I already told you I'm not sure if I have a receipt but it doesn't matter I won't be back.
Sorry that was long but for all of you who live in San Antonio and shop at this store you are giving your money to a douche bag that could use therapy and won't use your hard earned money on that therapy either. If they have any kind of store policies for anything she will change them and make them up as she goes. This is not an ethical way to run a business, this is how douche bags rip you off.
So fuck the national outdoors whatever the splif you wanna call it store.
